Formed in June, 2001, the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada is Atlantic Canada's only professional ballet company. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Igor Dobrovolskiy, the company's vision is to assume a unique role in the cultural fabric of Canada becoming an institution of national and international significance driven by strong, creative, artistic leadership and sound, fiscally responsible administration. The launching of the ABTC has been a major cultural initiative in terms of its artistic standard, Atlantic regional scope and the potential to develop a broad audience. A small company of eight dancers from around the world, The Atlantic Ballet Theatre presents original productions, creating stories through ballet-theatre, offering new insights into the art of the dance. The company tours extensively throughout its home REGION -- Atlantic Canada and is now poised to bring its productions across Canada and the United States. Maintaining a standard of excellence the ABTC works with many of the county's finest set, costume and lighting designers. As part of the mission of The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada to expand the cultural horizons of young Atlantic Canadians, the company offers dance education and community awareness opportunities through its Professional Education Program. These initiatives include Student Matinee performances and Master Classes. Currently the company is working on two new original productions: MERLIN, which will premiere on October 25, 2003 and the company¹s largest production to date -- a new work scheduled for Spring 2004, based the popular novel of Jacques Savoie, LES PORTES TOURNANTES (THE REVOLVING DOORS).
